About waxing

Waxing can be performed in a salon or at home and it means literally pulling hair out by the root with a "wax" that is able to grip onto hair. Waxes may be primarily beeswax, resin, or a sugar based formulation. Some come in pre-formed "cold" strips. Typically, waxes are spread onto skin, a cloth or non-woven material is pressed onto the wax, and the cloth and wax are quickly pulled off the skin, taking hair and root with it. The well-documented effect of waxing is smoother, hair-free skin lasting longer than shaving.

Warm waxes are either heated in a microwave, or warmed in a double boiler or heater and can work to open up pores and allow for more effective hair removal.  The majority of warm waxes for at home use are sugar formulations which means they are water soluble and that any residue left on the skin after waxing is easily washed off.  For best results hairs should be at least 5mm but no longer than 10mm long.  Sugar formulated waxes such as Nair Easiwax are suitable for all areas on the body and face.  Nair Easiwax comes in a 375g tub that is heated either on the stove in a double boiler on in the microwave.

Salons use both sugar waxes and resin waxes. Resin formulations generally remove shorter hairs. They have traditionally required the use of professional heaters to maintain the correct consistency and so have been limited to professional salon use.  Unlike sugar formulations that require the use of a cloth strip to remove the wax, resin waxes do not need cloth strips – they are simply left to harden and form their own strip before being removed.

The Nair® range has three liquid resin waxes suitable for use at home. Salon Divine® Body Wax in Sensual Orchid and Tahitian Gardenia, suitable for the legs and body, and Salon Divine® Sensitive Wax, suitable for facial and delicate areas. They all have a unique formula that can be heated in the microwave. Unlike the sugar based formulations, Salon Divine Wax can remove hairs as short as 2mm which is approximately 1 week’s growth and do not require the use of cloth strips.

Cold waxes are usually pre-formed strips with wax already embedded in the strips. The benefit of cold waxing is that it is convenient - it doesn't require preparation or heating time. There is a range of high quality Nair resin cold waxes that come in pre-formed strips and can be reused 2 to 3 times. For best results hairs should be 3-5mm in length. They are available in Large for legs and body and Mini for bikini line, facial and other sensitive areas.
